Ever watched Christine? My mav is mad at me.

I bought a Yamaha XT 500, my mav is jealous and wont run for shit. First the alt belt snapped. I replaced it and now the mav will just die going down the road, at all the perfect times, made me walk to fireman training, I swear it has a soul. It is acting like it is not getting fuel. Going to change the fuel filter tomorrow. Any other ideas? F.Y.I. 1970 I6 200 bone stock.
