: : ive decided, for horsepower and header fit reasons,to go with standard steering instead of the power assist i have now.i know that ill have to change the steering box(many thanks to charlie, his pain is my gain)but i need to know if i can just remove the offending parts?,do i have to replace anything?. i havent touched it yet so some of these questions would be answered then but i figured it would be best to ask those of you who may have already done this swap before i got started and ended up turning a two hour job into a major project, any help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance, mcmav

you don't have to change the steering box. The power steering box has a 19:1 ratio, and the manual box has somewhere around 15 (I think). I know that the power box is a quicker box, great for cornering, etc, but it's harder to turn the steering wheel compared to the manual box. Also, it would be a good idea to change the center link, and the pitman arm to do the job right. I did the swap on my '74, it was fairly easy. I got a new center link from pst (I think) and the pitman arm and manual box from a junk '73.
