: You chose the right car to restore, If you look at the Vin# (look through the windsheild in the lower driver side) the first number will tell you the year. Your engine will be either a 200 cubic inch inline 6 or a 250 Cubic inch inline 6. There is the possiblily of a 170 but that is very unlikely. These engines don't have a lot of power (my 200 does the 1/4 mile in 19 seconds stock) but you can drive the snot out of them and they will not die. Many people swap up to a 302 V8. They are very easy to work on and are great beginner cars. Not many things changed on mavs through their production years 1969.5 to 1977 so parts are fairly easy to find. I don't know anything about exterior painting but I converted my interior from baby poop brown to gloss black and found that Dupli-color vinal paint works well, except in areas that will be rubbed against. Post any of your questions here and they will probobly be answered.
hey welcome to the board. my suggestion would be to swap out the 6 for a 302. it is a fairly easy swap and parts are alot easier to find. also if you want power you can do alot with the v8.with the lightweight maverick you can go fast!!!! just make sure you save the really fast driving for the track! also if the body on your car is in good shape i would check some of your local paint shops you might be surprised on the price.
