Well, it is very possible you could keep driving the car for 5 years and nothing would ever happen to it. It is also possible you could blow it up tomorrow, so it is hard to say. I speculate that you can keep on driving the car.
$800 sounds good for a rebuild, $1200 for rebuild and R & R (removal and re-install) doesn't sound bad either.
The last thing you need to do is to put a 4-barrel on the car. If you can't afford a rebuild, then you really can't afford the "go fast" stuff either because when you "go fast", you also break things and tear things up.
