First off, $150-175 is alot for just the intake gasket. The gasket set alone costs around $15. It is a very easy swap and is not hard even for the beginner. As far as an intake swap goes, you can pick up a 4 bbl. intake for around $50 and get a carb. for about $200, an dall together $275 if you install yourself. Now for the grease part. Are you sure they didn't put the grease there just to squeeze a little bit more money out of ya? Don't take this wrong. It can happen to anyone. But it sounds kinda odd that you take the car there and you didnt notice the problem and now it is there. Of course it could be true and can happen. But again, it sounds kinda odd to me. I agree with others, get another opinion.
