The reason one hinge is up & one is down is because Ford, in it's infinite cheapness, only put one torsion bar connected to the passenger side hinge.Your torsion bar popped off one end of the trunk hinge. If you look on the outside of the driver's side hinge you will see a sawtooth type hooks towards the front of the hinge & a single groove towards the rear. The torsion bar wraps under the right hinge, goes across the back, & hooks under the single groove & up onto one of the sawtooth grooves. The higher the groove you use, the more tension you put on the hinge & the more weight it can hold when your trunk is open. It takes alot of pressure & steady nerves to get it back on. Let me know if this isnt clear enough, I can take a couple of pics & email them to you.
