Fastman, why not find a decent used car. For example the 91 and up escorts are decent cars with highway mileage in the 36-38 range. You can probably find a nice used one for say 4K. This would give you a reasonable monthly payment with a relatively low downpayment. In addition, insurance would be a lot less (compared to the focus). In the end, you can probably own the escort and keep the mavs. If you really are paying that much for gas you can probably figure that the monthly payment, insurance and gas would be substantially less than 650/month. According to my calculations, 35mpg would be about 4.5 gallons each day times 22 work days/month is 198 bucks per month. So another 450 to cover payments and insurance. You probably would have enough left over to keep one mav running for the weekends.
