after 72 they started playing with them for emissions. You can adjust it, but drive it for a while before you do anything. The manufacter has their own system for adjusting it. If the instructions weren't with it, call them and get them. Most modulators will "fine tune" only. You normally don't see "big" changes. Anything else is just walking around in the dark.

: Is it a must to adjust the modulator valve on the trans.? I just got done with the trans. rebuild and am unsure how much I should have adjusted the modulator. Because of this, I just left it alone and installed it. Is it preset from the manufacturer? If not, any recommendations? I am not one who is worried about a smooth shift, I have a shift kit and modulator late setting on my other C4 and I would rather it be this way. I do however, want the trans. to shift before the engine revs too high, but not too soon.

: Please let me know if the thing is preset and how many turns for later or sooner shifts as adjustments may be needed. BTW, it is one of those dual vacuum modulators. Why is it dual? The 72-earlier and the 75 and later are all single, why is the 73-74 dual?
