maverick v-8 swap ?'s and others ?'s for making my mav' high performance

i just attained a 1974 maverick 2-door with a straight six 250 in it, i was wondering what i have to do to put a 302 in it, and i mean i want all details, like what about that stock tranny, is it good enough, and also, what is the stock tranny, a frien of mine says it is a c-4 possibly, i am just a teenager who wants a fast car that everybody doesnt have, i mean there are tons of mustangs around, and i want something a little more unique, so please help me out, thanks for any help
