Another thing to keep in mind is any emission control devices. Some have spark timing control (via vacume lines to dist.) and it's easy to miss leaks, mis-routed lines, ect. As mentioned, any combustion chamber problems will show up as rough running and sometimes indirectly (like bad head gasket allowing gases into the cooling system, and visa-versa... unfortunately, this is what's currently happening with my 250 reman) Check the plugs for signs... use an additive for oil (might help with sticky valves) and also use a dwell meter to set points, inaccurate with a feeler guage because of plate movement. Oh yeah, forgot to mention the vacume advance on dist., but I see you found this on your own. Keep up the good work, and know that you're not the only one to go through "maverick hell" (it's a place you have to go through to get to "maverick heaven".
