the pitman and idler have to be matched to the year you use. They made changes in the different years. PS is just a slave setup onto the center link. The adapter just removes the hyd. slave and replaces it with a adapter. The center link has ball joints on it that wear out also. Remember this is your steering. If it goes wrong it can get ugly, especially if you do any hard driving with it.
This isn't back up lights were if they don't work it's no big deal. There is allot of places you can cut corners, Brakes & Suspension aren't one of them.

: had a different tooth count from a manual to power steering box, as in you need the pitman arm to match the steering box? is that right?
: what is jerry rigged about the adapter? looks pretty straightforward to me, its a screw on ball and socket joint.
: whats wrong with the old center link?
: just seems like less work to me.

: : pitman arms and the idler arms are the same,man/ps. Adapter is a "Jerry Rig" and you still have a old center link. Adapter also costs more.

: : : simpler solution...

: : : : Can you just swap out the center link or do you also need to change the pitman arm? I seem to remember hearing somewhere that the manual and power pitman arms aren't the same.

: :
: : : : : change the Centerlink to a manual one from PST for about $100 and get rid of the whole mess. The cylinder will push fluid back into the pump and make a mess until the level gets lw enough. As long as the fan belt is off it, no problem.

: : : : : : My power steering hoses leak like a mad. Today I took the belt off of the pump. Will this cause any more dammage it the system if I don't use the pump? Has anyone tried that adapter that removes the cylinder on the steering shaft? Also will it be easier to steer if the slave cylinder is removed(I know it will be harder than the power assist). But will it get better if all of the stuff on the steering is removed? Thanks Russ
