You need to give us all the code in order to id the part for sure. My reference shows there were no D2 codes used for the 302 between 68 and 80.
Listed are C8,D1,D4,AND D5. There can always be an error in any info source.
It's possible that early 73 car could have had a 72 engine installed at the factory. It happens more often than we think.
However it's not really a problem if the block is IDed or if its apart to measure how far the piston is down in the bore at top dead center.
73-76 will measure .034. the 68-72 will be .016 with some +/- on tolerence.
When I built my engine, it didnot make a difference as I had the block decked down to near zero considereing the head gasket compresses to about .047, there is no clearence problems with the heads.
With the block decked, the heads shaved .010 and flat top pistons the C.R. figured out to 9.7.
The engine has been running since 95 and will turns inexcess of 6200.
This is not helping to ID your block but gives some insight to the whole thing.
Hang in there you will get an answer. The deck ht. are 8.206 and 8.229 mesured from the crank centerline.
