I recommend a 8"
1. easier to install
2. easier to change gear ratios.
3. already fits.
4. Is stronger then a 8.8", three bearings support the pinion gear, not two.
5. easier too work on.
6. light weight.
7. looks stock.
8. already has axle retention setup for axles.
9. doesn't use "C" clip for axles. 8.8" axles are weak, same ones as the 7.5" uses.
10. and you can get a rear disc brake set up for the 8".

bad part for a 8" is gear ratios are a bit limited.

: I was wondering if anyone knows if the 8.8 rears from the later model Rangers are dimensionaly similar to the mavericks ?? I would really like the increased strength, but without the weight penalty of the 9".
: With the weight of my '71 I feel granada front disks, and ranger drum 8.8 with a manual disk master should put the "whoa" on my mav just fine.
