get it for anything less then $650. As Charlie send, "you have your V-8 and the kit for it". Drive train parts, trans/rearend, are a bonus. As for the engine year, on the block front, right where the waterpump, timing cover and block surface are you'll see a little "machined" pad. Stamped on there is the engine build date, 2A12= 1972, Jan. 12th. if that is close to the door tag build date along with the VIN number being correct, it's the orginal. 74 was the first year for standard electronic iginitons, but points are easy to change using the dist. housing you already have. Is it a manual or power steering, also is the raditor any good? Also nice bonuses. Interior?

: I need some real quick advice.. I went to see a Maverick today that I am thinking about buying to use for parts for my 71, but I'm having some severe second thoughts. It's a 73 LDO that's rough as a cob... front end is bad, windshield is cracked and leaks like a seive, thus floorboard is bad. It's been spray-painted flat black so hard to tell about the body but that doesnt really matter since i'm going to be using it for parts. So here's the scoop on the car. It's got a 302 with some kind of aftermarket cam in it... the guy has no clue what the internals of the engine are (previous owner built it), but at idle it stutters like Mel Tillis on crack. He says the tranny was rebuilt recently, and it seems to shift pretty sweet, so I'll take his word for that one. It's got a fairly nice (i.e. loud) dual exhaust system, as well as other misc. pieces I can use for my car (which now has a 200 6 cylinder, so I need the cross members, etc. from this car). I am a little worried about the engine since he doesn't seem to know anything about it other than that it will "haul ass". To be specific, didn't they have electronic ignition by '73? This one's got points. Given the rest of the car, I have my doubts that is the original motor (too rainy to be climing around looking for numbers today). That might not be a BAD thing, as it might be a nice engine, but I'm basically buying a pig in a poke (it's a southern thing... if you dont get it dont worry). So somebody please give me some advice about this car. The guy listed it in the paper for $850.00, but he said that wasn't written in stone. It just seems like a lot of $$$ to put down on a car that I am so uncertain about. But then again I am going to have to have an engine and tranny, crossmembers, exhaust, etc. By the time I buy all of that stuff, I'll have a lot more than that in it, right? HELP!!!
