The bellhousing on the trans on a 250 I6 is identical to the V8. In fact it is the same tranny used in the 302 cars. By the way 250 I6 does not mean 5-bolt rims. Trust me, I have a '71 250 I6 and it has 4-bolt rims stock.

: So after I decided to pass on the other car, I found yet another Maverick listed in a classifieds paper. It's a 71 that has been in the man's family since new, so he knows the car inside out. No, it's not a 302, but the good news is it IS a 250 I-6, meaning 5-lug bolt pattern and v8 compatible tranny. Oh, I almost forgot to mention bucket seats and automatic shifter in the floor. The old guy said he just quit driving it a couple of months ago because he inherited a newer car from one of his granchildren. It's still got a current NC inspection sticker! He's only asking $500.00 for it, which sounds much more reasonable to me. I'm driving up to look at it tomorrow (it's about 2 hours away) so please keep your collective fingers crossed that this one is better than the last!
