: I almost learned a lesson the hard way. I went to purchase the Edelbrock performer plus cam shaft for my '77 302 and was very lucky that the guy from summit was on the ball. He informed me that a cam with that kind of lift needed an adjustable valve train. I have to admit that I am not very versed in valve train components and was startled to find out all the work that goes into converting to a stud mount rockers and giude plates. Unfortunatley I don't have the budget for all that and I will have to wait. The guy at Edelbrock said that he gets calls all the time from guys who call complaining that their valve train sounds terrable or the car won't run.
: I know that alot of the old timers out there are probably well aware of this sort of thing, but the way I figure it, if I can save one person the headache, and money, that I just avoided than I did a good thing.

I have a Erson 296 duration and .504 lift in my 75 Mav 302. Using stock heads with this cam. I got some 5/16 Posi-Loks(just like come with adjustable rockers, except for them being 3/8). You use the exsisting rail rockers and adjust the loks until the pushrod just stops rotating, then turn lok down 1/4 turn and tighten set screw. I was a bit skeptical at first but it will work as long as RPM's stay within a reasonable range. The posi-loks are fairly cheap, it's a backyard approach and machined studs and guide plates are best but I took the car to the drag strip yesterday with 4.62 rear gears and 9in slicks. Ran it up to 5800 on the shifts, no problems. Made four runs before the rain came. Ran 8.74's-8.90's with Edelbrock Carb and Manifold with headers, otherwise eng. is stock with C4 and a 61 year old driver(best reaction time was 562) Just a little bit of info. on my situation, maybe you can use it?
