The name hemi refers to the shape of the combustion chamber, hemispherical, and mopar has the patten on that and so it can't be a real hemi engine. There are a few hemi's that most people don't know about, eg the 455 that was used in 100 police interceptors. This was going to be the answer to the problem they had with the police. When the hemis first came out(dating myself), they blew away all the cops and Mopar was under the spotlight and they were considering legislaton to prevent all muscle cars from being produced. Of course, we all know how it turned out..thank God.... They were banned from drag racing if i remember right! I think that now that is over, due to the various new combustion chamber designs...
