ok, engine is out, yes it is easier, why? engine is not in the way, shock tower, jacking up engine, wiggly engine is not required. Can it be gone if the engine is in all ready? Yes, but why do it that way if the engine is out already unless you just want to get the engine in out of the way. Sure would be a bitch if those bolts holes didn't line up once the engine was in and then you're putting the headers on. Test fit them, will make it much easier. Is it easier to put the engine with the trans mounted on the engine or in the car. depends how you took at it and is the trans out already. same problem. seen and done it both ways depends on my mood sometimes and type of trans.
And final observation. If you put the headers in the engine compartment and the engine fits right in, you're done, doesn't fit pull the headers out of the way and put the engine in, then the headers. No big deal. You already have the engine mounted and now the headers with the jacking up and wiggly? they're in job done.
Lower the engine in the compartment almost to the mounts, install the headers and lower the engine the rest of the way. All a personal preference and the tools & time available to you.

: without the headers, and put them on afterwards (when i get them). Or should i wait until i get the headers? If i go ahead and put the engine in now, would i have to unbolt mounts again to put in the headers? from what i've heard, i will have to, and jack up the engine.
: i don't have much else to do on the engine, and seeing it in the car would give me some encouragement too. any advice appreciated.
: thanks,
