Hey Arnie,

I thought about that, but unfortunately I don't have a compression guage handy (mine walked off, don't you hate that?). I thought I would rebuild this carb (which obviously needs it) before I invest in one. A quick question about out-of-spec compression... wouldn't I be experiencing some blow-by if that were the case? This engine shows absolutely zero symptoms of blow-by, i.e. no puffs of smoke from the PCV valve, and the air cleaner and related filters are dry as a bone. And the miss occurs across all cylinders, if that makes any sense at all. What I mean is that I systematically took off each spark plug to listen for changes in idle to make sure the cylinder was firing. When I did this, I also listened for the miss (other than the one caused by having one plug wire off). Sure enough, all cylinders were firing, and the odd miss was present with each spark plug wire off. I'm no expert, but all of this points to something in the fuel system, rather than an ignition problem or lack of compression. At any rate, I'll let you know what happens when I get this one-eyed beast rebuilt.
