Thanks RR... the plugs were replaced by the previous owner very recently. They don't show any wear, but they are very dark and sooty in appearance, indicating carbon fouling, i.e. running too rich. There was a little bit of oil around the base of each plug (next to the threads) but I am figuring this is probably due to bad valve stem seals, which is next on my list. The engine is as quiet as any I have ever heard... no bottom-end noise at all, and no valvetrain noise either. Even if it is a six-banger, I can't wait to get this car running right!
