Last time out, my Maverick ran a best time of 12.46.
Since that time, I've put the car on a diet and improved carb breathing. I replaced the stock hood with a fiber glass hood and 6" scoop (32 lb reduction). I fabricated an airbox underneath the hood to maximize ram effect. I connected the airbox to the carb via a 4" velocity stack. I removed my front buckets and replaced them with fiberglass seats (80 lb savings). I also removed the rear seat(30 lbs). Relacing the stock Magnum 500 tires and rims with AR light weight rims and front runner tires saved another 60 lbs. Unfortunately, as I backed the car off the trailer, I blew out one of the front runners ($113 down the tubes) so I put the Magnums back on.
The car ran a best time of 11.86!
The fresh air and 140 lbs less weight made a HUGE difference in the performance. She's still loose at the top end (this run was made at 2/3rds trottle at the finish line). With the lighter front runners and putting more caster into the alignment, she should run in the low 11s. I'll keep you posted.
