The screen (pick up tube) that they sold me is WAY too long. It would stick out thru the back of the oil pan if I used it. Old screen looked good so I put it back on. I'll try that 'turn the pump by hand' method and see if it works.
Thanks alot.

: no such thing as a stupid question my good man. first fill the oil filter as much as possible. As far as priming the pump? On a new engine, I do because I want oil thru out the engine. On a engine that has been running before, I just put the pump pickup tube, attached to the pump of course, in some oil and turn the pump by hand enough to get oil to come out the discharge port. Shouldn't have a problem after that. Just make sure the pickup tube/pump are the same height as the old. Had one once that was longer and put the pickup screen about 1/8" from the pan. Not enough clearence.
: : Do I need to prime the oil pump in any way???? If so could you please describe the procedure in detail just so I don't screw it up again. :-)
: : Thanks.
