Normally I would say go with the Exhaust system first (I still do) but Back in the day, I did the 4-barrel & Intake first and had the single exhaust for a couple years like that...it made a NOTICEABLE improvement in power. In fact that little STOCK 302 pulled to 5300 RPM with that Holley/Edelbrock and 2-inch single exhaust. Uncorking it made it perform even better...You really DO need BOTH though...
: Both at once are the real only way to see an improvement, Fords are usually lacking on the exhaust side so I'd do that first though... $50 to install? C'mon, you can install a carb! Just ask us how. In the meantime you can get a good used Holley 4V and stick it on for under $100. Then the new carb will come next. Personally I like Holleys better, and a vac secondary Holley will be cheaper than $200 new -CP
: : Hello everyone! Needless to say I have spent about $1500 bucks to fix up the mav mechanically. Now I have to decide weither to put a nice edelbrook 4 barrel carb or new exhaust. The exhaust that I have now is okay its basically straight pipes with metal (what looks like half cylinders) things around them. It sounds nice now and the performance shop called and said that a new exhaust which includes new 2 1/4 piping and and new flowmasters mufflers would cost me around $320. Now the carb would cost me $239 for the part and $50 to install. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals!
