Actually the generic ones are just as good in most cases. The Summit, Jegs, etc. cams are made by the Regular cam companies, Crane, Isky, Comp Cams, etc, just without the big name on them. Unless you're looking for a special grind, which most street cars aren't, the generic will work just fine. HAve used Summit in several cars for years and have had no problems.
: I've been doing some reading about cam shafts and I have to admit that I am more confused than ever.
: Here's the question: If a big name company sells a cam for 158.00 and a generic company like Summit
: sells one for 58.00, which one is better? I checked the numbers and the power band is the same and
: all the numbers match up. I love to save money, but will I be sorry? I am looking for a cam in the
: 1500 to 5500 range and would like to match it to a edelbrock performer rpm intake and 600 cfm carb.
: Does anybody have a set up that worked well under a tight budget? I'd like to spend less the 600 dollars
: on the intake, cam, and carb.
: Thanks
