aligning the rearend is important anytime it is unbolted. Ever see a vehicle that goes down the road sideways, rearend out of alignment. Even if you put it back in the same holes it does take much to make U-joints work more then designed for. With the front wheels pointed as straight forward as possible measure the center to center of your front to back whells, should be the same. Then in a "X" pattern measure from the rear shock lower threaded stud to the front wheel's lower ball joint zert fitting, should be very close. All these measurements should be with 1/4" of each other. Next is the pinion angle. Should be between 0-4 degs pointed down at the pinion yoke.
Also is there any chance the drive shaft the bend, don't take much, sterch a string the length of it and check for bends.

: I am having a serious vibration in my drivetrain, and I know it isn't the engine. I suspect either the rearend or my driveshaft is too short(had it shortened during 302 swap) and not contacting the bushing in my C4, but again I am not sure exactly. What I am asking is for atleast two people here who have a 302 Maverick with C4 would measure their driveshafts from center of U-joint-to-center of U-joint, so that I can make sure my driveshaft is infact the correct length. I have had this vibration ever since the swap and I haven't been able to isolate it, unless two of you can help me. I know it is hard to get under there, but please help. BTW, if it matters, 70 Maverick, 8 inch rear.
