Yeah, they are just like exhaust manifolds, except much lighter(generally speaking they are constructed of steel tubing rather than cast iron) and they usually are designed to flow much better than stock exhaust manifolds. To be honest, I have never owned a vehicle with headers, so I don't have a whole lot of experience with them, but I have no doubt you will get lots of other posts.
