Here's why-- I used my stock I6 springs for about 2 years because I figured they were pretty strong (the car was a 250 w/ac and HD suspension) but after 2 years of bearing the weight of the V8 they went out. The car started to sag and bottom out, my tires started to srub and the rearend came up, the springs were shot. They just weren't meant to hold that sort of weight. I put some '72 V8 w/ac springs in and not only is the car level now, but it rides and handles so much better its unreal.
Its not absolutely necessary, so if you want to get the car on the road go ahead, but plan on getting some V8 springs if you want the car to be right. -CP

: Lets hear everyones opinion. When performing a V8 swap into a 6 cyl chassis, do you really need to change springs if they are in good condition?
