My 1969 GTO Judge had "Ram Air" it was vacume activated. It was on the Judge with a 400 engine had dual cross feed manifold with 2 holly 750cfm double pumpers.
I read that article and had a system like that in my mustang(my daily driver slightly souped) and it didn't give any improvement. Mostly because the engine compartment warmed the tubes going to the carb.
I am not trying to be a kill joy, but finding ways to reduce the engine compartment temp is a better solution. Less work too!
In the good old days before NHRA oultlawed the hemi engines, they experimented with hood scoops, the scoop required to do any real performace change was the ones on the old super bea's and the GTX.
If you want to get the cold air, the windsheild is the best air because the direction of the wind changes and starts to accelerate and therefore it get colder. It starts to swirl back and then you have the best combo.....
The article that push the ram air had me going, I put about $125 bucks into tubing and crap and my performance decreased because of the temp and also the tubes that they showed, the tubes caused air turbulence and decreased the actual air flow.
I am not saying this will happen in every case, but its what happened to me and a few others....
I suggest header wrap or duracoat or the more expensive jet-hot coating.
Yes more expensive but it really does work in more ways than just heat, it increases the exhaust flow and reduces the heat so you get a better intake charge.
Just my opinion after 20 year of trying everything
