HiPo block did have one difference, main caps were thicker, rebuild kit shouldn't be that much different, con rods & rod bolts are different, Everything else is pretty much the same.
: I have a 67 Mustang with a 289 the engine is the HiPro version of the 1967 289 but there is a draw back to the HiPro, rebuild kits are a bit hard to find a much more expensive than the ordinary 289. The Block is IDENTICAL to the 302. In fact a 302 is simply a bored and stroked 289. The 67 289 I have begs for a lead sustitute, it uses the lead as a lubricant, so I am told. Anyway, get it if you want it and dropping it into a Mav is no different than a 302.
