The Mavericks are at a handicap when it comes to exhaust systems. The gastank and body curves under neathe were never designed for duals. This makes it even harder. Exhaust experts "recommend" 2 1/4" for up to 351 CID on mild street machines, 2 1/2" on extreme small blocks. 360 and up engines, 2 1/2" exhaust. Think of it this way, factory was probably 2" single, now with a 2 1/4" has more then doubled your exhaust flow, just watch the restrictive mufflers.
I have a 73 Mercury Comet with a 289 and headers. I was wondering what you guys were running for exhaust systems. I wanted to run 2 and half inch dauls out the back but my local exhaust guy said it would be tough to run that size pipe over the axle. He suggested 2 to 2 and a quarter at the biggest. Any info would be apprieciated. Thanks Jeff.
