: put as much Caster in her as you can get. about 4deg, Camber run Zero, Toe In 1/32". A very good book is "Door Slammers: The Chassis Book by Dave Morgan". Your wheel/chassis setup may not be square also. And make sure your suspension parts are new. Another little "Special" thing is to pull the steering lock piece out of the column. You don't want to take a change of it screwing up and locking up on you., Cheap insurance in the racing world.
: : I need some advice on setting up the front end alignment of my 1970 Maverick. The car is used primarily for 1/4 racing with 12.26 it's best time. My problem is that it's like a suicide mission taking the car down the track. She handles good on the street and under light acceleration. With the slicks and hard launches, she pulls to the right. Between shifts she rebounds to the left, but moves to the right once the next gear is engaged (this is extremely hairy going into 4th gear). I have yet to take the car down the track at full throttle for fear of putting her into the wall.
: : I've got a Detroit Locker in the rear, equal presure in the slicks, Cal-Trac traction bars loaded more on the right than the left, an engine torque strap, and sub-frame connectors. All front parts are new with the exception of the steering box. Being that the car drifts at higher speeds, I'm thinking that either: 1)the alignment specs are off (especially caster). The alignment specs may be fine for everyday driving, but not for the thrashing at the track; or 2) the steering box is out of wack and not returning the wheel to center or neutral position.
: : Has anyone else experienced this problem? And, does anyone have any tricks to setting up the front end alignment for 1/4 Mavericks? Thanks in advance for your help.
