> I wish I could give you good news Dave, but as I found out the hard way, going with a 4speed in a Mav can be a challenge. The only clutch equalizer bar (or Z-bar as it's also known) that will work correctly without modification is the one out of an originally V8/standard shift (3 speed is all that was available, but that works) Maverick or Comet. It's a 2 piece device that bolts together in the middle, and is extremely rare. I was determined to go this route, so I looked hard for months, but finally found one. If you do get a chance to buy one, make sure you get everything!( the linkage rods, the ball on the engine, the pivot on the frame, and all the bushings, clips, springs, etc. These are very hard to locate after the fact. Another option, if you are a bit of a fabricator; a few 4speed Mavs were built back in the early '70 by hot rodders who couldn't wait for Ford to offer one. These guys used '67 or thereabouts Mustang Z-bars with "some modification", although the modifications are never spelled out in any of the articles. Personally I think it will be worth your effort in the long run, if you can afford the time needed to find the parts. When I was a kid (too long ago) if you weren't shifting your car yourself, you weren't driving it; you were just steering it! Happy gears too you! John B.

: I have a 71 maverick with a 302 that i just put a 4 speed toploader in. My only problem is that i have clutch linkage for a 75 maverick with a 6 cyl. I need help on what clutch linkages can be used in it or if anyone knows where i can find the original clutch linkage for the 302.
