the 385, ( 429/460) is a completely different bolt pattern then the FE series engines, they will not interchange and the C-6 housing is cast as one complete unit so you can't change the bell housing as you can with the C-4.
385s, 429/460, use the same bell housing/C-6s as the 351M/400. that is the only other source of trans for the 460s. Cleveland is a bolt pattern of the small block Ford also, can't use them either.Sorry.

: Hey all, is there a difference between FE C6 trannys and the 429/460 type C6 tranny? I can get a good deal on one that is connected to a 1972 390 but plan on running a 460. I have little experience with big block heavy duty stuff so just wondering. I dont think that the bell is removable like on a C4. Thanx for any help!
