I had the same problem on a daily driver "pizza delivery" Maverick I had about 10 years ago. The shock mounts busted right off. I took the car to a body shop that speciallizes in custom body work (chopped roofs, tubbed rear-ends, etc). For only $75 they welded in a piece of box metal frameing from one side of the frame to the other. Worked like a charm.

: Has anyone fabricated rear shock mounts for a Mav? My 71 had half of the formed sheet metal part that schocks mount to torn off. I have drilled out the spot weld and removed the other half. I am thinking about welding tubing from frame to frame and then mounting the shocks to that. Any thoughts, suggestions on my approach or other ideas would be much appreciated.
: A related question: when I pulled the rear end I stupidly did not note which shock goes ahead of the rear end on the staggered shock arrangement. I cannot tell from the manual which one goes ahead and which one goes behind the rearend. Can anyone tell me which is the right way? Thanks, Butch
