No, it won't work, chevy engines turn backwards and you'll have 3 speeds in reverse
Seriously though, I'd put the 6 back in. Putting a SB chebbie will be very difficult since you'll have to fabricate everything and use a chevy transmission and hook up the transmission linkage and fabricate a transmission crossmember and shorten/lentghen the driveshaft. Then with all that work you'll have a car that chevy guys won't like and Ford guys won't touch. Put the 6 back or try a SB Ford. It'll be much easier. You can use the exsisting transmission/bellhousing even. Check out my website for more info: Maverickgrabber.com-CP
: hey there ford guys,
: I've got a 1974 maverick with orginally a 6 cylinder in it and i am wanting to drop a small block chevy in it just for fun. i am a chevy guy and i don't know if this combo will work since i have never worked with fords. i know i will have to totally redo the wiring and new engine and tranny mounts. anything else that i need to know before i start?? and is this swap worth it or do i just need to put a 6 cylinder back in?? thanks, shane
