It would be darn near impossible to bend a cam. The only forces exerted on the cam are the lifters riding on the lobes. Any excess force would not bend the cam, but would bend the pushrods that are riding in the lifters, which are far FAR weaker than the cam itself. The other contact point for the cam is the area where the cam rides on the cam bearings (no load). If the cam were somehow bent in one of these areas (which I have never seen), it would eat up one or more of your cam bearings, and at least two things would probably be evident. It would be squealing more than Ned Beaty on Deliverance and you would have next to no oil pressure. I agree with the previous post... this guy's a quack. I'd shop some more, if I were you. If his expertise in installing your "new" engine is anywhere close to that of his diagnosis, I'd be scared to let him put air in the tires.
