:I have a simple question, but one that I need help on. The plugs in my Mav are #45 Autolites or BRF-42 MotorCrafts. They seem like they are a very cold plug, with a short electrode. What are some alternatives to these that would give the car some more performance, and give a little better mileage? The heads are '66 2894V, and it has an Edelbrock Performer carb and intake, and headers/dual exhaust. Any help would be appreciated.

:Earl, the heat range for Autolite plugs increase in number to go hotter ie 45 to 46 etc. I doubt if you will see much improvement in fuel mileage by changing plugs unless the old ones are bad ot you have a fouling problem. A lite foot is about all you can do for fuel milage as performance and mileage are most always at odds with each other. Other things that help milage are harder tires, leaner carb, advance ignition timing to a point just under pinging at heavy load, shifts upward sooner, install a vaccuum gauge and drive to keep max vaccuum reading. It tends to get rediculess after awhile. Ken
