thanks for the input, it turned out to be the bushing broke that held on the metal/rubber-maze piece that directed the flow so the air was just leaking out. we had to fabricate a fairly simple fix but it all works now. thanks again

:just bought a 77 comet with 66,000 miles and the lever that changes airflow from the defrosters to panel to floor does not work. all it allows is defroster position. is this a common problem with these cars and if so what is the fix?
