:I have recently started entertaining the idea of entering my Maverick in autocross events. I have a '77 two door with a 302 and i plan on keeping the 302 and focusing more on the suspension. Does any one have a good source (preferably on the west coast) for lowering kits? I truely believe that with a little (maybe a lot) work my Mav will do well, besides, i would love to run against them "other" better known cars. Thanks for the help.

..Max, There are no kits that I know of. I will be giving more info here than you wanted but It does't hurt to know more.
.. I feel you should be looking at increasing roll stiffness
first, then do the lowering last. To get a good bite wider tires
and wider rims would be in order. There would be fender lip tire clearence problems that come as a result of the lowering and wide tires so roll stiffness is important.
..I would consider heavier front anti roll bar, move the old front roll bar to the rear, 4 leaf rear springs. Then figure the wheels and tire sizes, check the fit and clearence before lowering. Lowering at the rear is done with blocks installed between the springs and the axle housing. They are obtained from the speed shops. Front is done by shortining the front coil springs. The front upper control arm mountings can be relocated for a gain in handleing. Then stiffining bars in the engine bay and frame sub connectors can be added. Be awhere that soft ride in going away with each change except the rollbars don't change ride much when going in a straight line. And theres more if you want them.
..I gave you more info than you may have wanted but now you have the areas that can be upgraded and what is done. If you do the front roll bar, rear springs and rear roll bar there will be a huge difference in handling from just those mods, and will do more than lowering.
..Good luck,Ken
