I plan on racing the car from time to time at the local strip, but not as a every week thing. The car will be mainly a sunday night cruiser and friday get to work car cuz i can type car when it is all done. The every so often stomp the car next to me at the stoplight is not out of the question as well. 380 gears is close to 373 gears so thats ok. Its not a posi unit, that i found out today What would ya suggest as a parts list to convert my 8" rear to a trac lok or posi unit with gears like the 380's? I am not understanding what i need in total to do the swap as i have never done it. I am not sure what i am looking for or even what to ask when i call em. The rearend and gears will be one of the first things i will be getting done - like in the next month or so - as that will help me get off the line faster and use the engine better. I don't think i will ever leave a start line at 4000 rpm with slicks, although i am sure i will get slicks if/when i take her to the strip so the stock 28 spline sound good to me.

::Ok so.... if i decide to buy a new 3rd mem for a 8" rear all i need to do is get the gears in it i want (373 to 391) and buy it with a street locker installed and for 28 spline. Now if i want to upgrade to 31 spline then i need to order it that way and get the new axles in 31 spline? as i assume the 31 spine will not fit in the 28 spline shaft rear? I am also assuming that if i get the gears in the new 3rd mem that its a drop and install job? thanks

::David, you need some clearing up on the 3rd member info.
::Presently at JEG'S and SUMMIT there offering in ratios are 3.55, 3.80 4.11 and 4.62. There are other ratios in between but would have to go to Perogie or another source.
:..There are two or three after market traction loks and two factory units. Either way its difficult to lach onto a worth while set up inexpensivly. The after market 8" traction loks are in the range of $400 and gears around $180 plus setup hardware and gaskets, all 28 spline. The 8" uses the same spider gears assembly and clutch discs as the 9" so 31 spline could be fitted to an 8" unit by using 31 spline spider gears BUT the 31 spline 9" axles have to be custom worked for length and possibly bearing size to do this. CURRIE ENTERPRISE can help you with what ever you want.
:..If your going to make a lot of power and drag launch at 4000, big slicks and all that, then go whole 9" setup. If not 8" is fine. Either way its going to cost to get what you want unless a tooth ferry visits. Ken
