:Man better halves can be fun at times. Ok so the roller motor plan is on hold. The better half didn't like the idea of me swapping out motors the way i planned it - and honestly i am still undecided what way i want to go as far as 302 stroker, roller 302, roller 302 stroker or 351 stroker. I got a stock 1974 302 in the car now, rated at 138hp and 238 ft/tq with 87K on it. It smokes abit on startup - valve seals i am told - but runs strong and doesn't burn oil ect ect. The pistons are cast (i am assuming) and it has 8.0:1 compression (according to the book) So, heres the question (actually afew of em)
:
:IF i put 289 heads on it with a home spruce up on em, a 4bbl manifold, a 600 to 650cfm 4bbl carb, headers, duel exhuast, shift kit, 2000 to 2500 stall convertor, and 373 gears, what cam can i run to make some power from idle to 5500 rpm? i am thinking under 300hp on stock pistons IF thats even possible. Now i like the lopey idle, but can live without it if i have to for now, i also know i will most likely not see my 13's on this combo The better half's thinking is to gimmi something to play with now and focus on the car as in looks, handling and such. That way when its done i can install a nice motor into a car that looks good and the car will be setup for the new power rather then power the car and break parts trying to catch up on parts so it can handle the power.
:
:Next question.
:
:Its a 1974 Grabber, the 302 in it now has about 1/2 to 1" clearance on each side of the stock exhuast manifolds, i know headers are about the same. What does it take to shove a 351W into it? My thinking is when i go and build the real engine i might as well shell out abit more to make a 351W stroker, i thought i saw them going as high as 396cid out of a 351? I think that motor with a 150 shot would make a "nice" little street/strip suprise (big grin) mind you this will be a 1 to 2 year project build - the wallet hurts already.
:
:Thanks for the info - i have waited years to get my mav, i planned everything far in advance of ever getting it, now i have it - i dunno what to do with it first or even how to do it. Its fast for stock - that i know as its surprised me afew times, but as always - its not quite fast enough lol....

:David

On page 13 upper right corner of the Auto Krafters catalog you'll find Hooker Headers for a 351W swap into 70-76 mav's they will only set you back $299.99
