Stay with the 8" and rebuild it. You'll find that along with the extra weight of the 9" they can also take a little more horse power to turn. Another thing is most Ford trucks used a 9 3/8" ring/pinion and call them a 9". Makes it a little tougher getting parts for down the line. Your 8" can handle 450 hp with the right parts. If you start adding more hp to your engine, go with Forged steel axles and you won't have any problems. Then is posi and lockers out there for 8" so that's not a problem.

:I feel the time has come for a rear gear change. --- OPTION 1: I guy I know has a 9" Truck rear already narrowed to fit a Maverick for $300. Everything is there except the center section.(brakes and all).I already have a 9" open diff. center section out of a truck that would bolt in this rear.(But would really like to have a posi.)--- Option 2: I go out and buy a complete 8" center section with the ratio I want and a posi. diff. and keep my housing that in my car. I have a mild 289 that is guesstamated at 250 hp. Thanks for the thoughts. Russ
