Jason,

First: Turn signals...

When you move the turn signal switch does *anything* happen? Does it just flop around? Do ANY of the lights come on either the left or right side?

If the switch is just "flopping" around then I'd replace the switch with a Pinto turn signal switch (same part number, easier to find at the junkyard). Plan on renting a steering wheel puller for this and about 1+ hours of your time...

If the switch has some "feel" to it (clicks, positive stops, etc) but no lights activate (including the dash indicators) then I'd check the fuse (to see if blown) and the fuse holder to make sure the contacts are not corroded. Some Mavs had problems with the cowl vents leaking that would let moisture in.

Enough on the turn signals, perform these tests and let us know.

Second: Air Conditioning...

Start the car and turn on the A/C at all blower settings. Does the car blow *any* air from the vents? (hot or cold?). If not then we'll work on that later...

If the blower is blowing air then set the A/C to Max-AC and look under the hood to see if the *inside* of the A/C compressor hub is spinning. If not, then it's a bad pressure switch (rare) or the system has leaked out its freon. Here's how to check:

Turn the car off and disconnect the single black wire going to the A/C compressor clutch. Using a (thick) jumper wire, connect it to the exposed wire from the clutch. *TAP* the jumper wire on the POS battery post. Do you hear a "Click" or "Thunk" from the A/C compressor? If so, GOOD, if not then your compressor clutch is shot. Get a new compressor or have the whole thing rebuilt.

ONLY if you heard the "click" from the above step do this: Start Car, Have someone sit inside the car with the A/C on high and blower on full. Being careful not to get the jumper wire (or yourself) caught on any spinning thingies, hold the jumper wire onto the + battery terminal and notice if the clutch engages. If it does then hold it for about 30 seconds, the person in the car should feel some cold (cooler?) air. If they do then the A/C has a weak charge and must be filled. If not, then the A/C is completely empty and you have to find the leaky part and have the system recharged.

Be careful with the jumper wire. The A/C compressor clutch draws alot of current and can heat the wire up.

DO NOT *even* think about *hot-wiring* the A/C clutch permanently if you feel cold air! This is a safety circuit to prevent the A/C compressor from burning up in the even it has little or no freon. Get it charged!

Hope this helps!

P.S. Stephan; Feel free to post this in the FAQ as you wish

:Well I got my new mav, and it has a/c and I was looking for an idea on why it isn't working, and I looke dunder the dash and there are hoses LOTS, and there is one that is black with a white stripe, and it is near the kick pannal of the passenger side, any ideas????? Also what are small things that might make an a/c work???, and another question I turn my turn signal on and nothing happens no click, but I put on the hazards and they come right on and blink off and on the break lights work, the the reverse lights don't work ither, but I had this same problem with my last mav. it was that copper slidign deal on the stearing colom, but I have no clue about the turing signal deal, so any ideas on the a/c or the bliker switch would be great!!!
:thanks,
:Jason
