HI, while I am no expert, I don't think that Ford ever put in a 351w in a Comet/Maverick and with the shock towers making it hard, we had to raise the engine up and move it back a bit. Last month someone posted a link to ford muscles article and when I looked at it I knew it was impossible. The A arm gets in the way trying to do the mod sugested for the mach 1. I don't know how many of the board members have actually done this mod themselves, but I am doing it. I am not having it done. This is not as easy as just hooking the engine to the mounts. If you want to be able to change the plugs, you will have to do some major mods. The mods I have done will require my drive shaft to be changed in size. I am guessing about 3/4" to 1" I don't see how anyone could do it different than that, but hey there are some real pros. I have one of the best in CO helping me. He is the one who built the late Ben Raymonds engine. (2 years ago national NHRA Super Gas champ) My suggestion stands that if you change the mount locations, you will have to resize the drive shaft. If you don't then you might have to put in platinum plugs and hope they don't fail as several have on me. It's a tight squeeze in there and even with the mods we have made, chaning the front 2 plugs is going to be a Bi#$h. I am not trying to argue, just telling my situation on how my 351w is going in and that I will require a new D/S and that if it's done well I think that you will need it done too!
chris :actually that would be stock length whatever was for your car, since Ford used that trans in there. Call a local driveline shop and ask them if they have a length info chart for you.
