if your timing is good, what is probably happening when you shut the car off the engine actually heats up even more and is probably boiling the fuel in your carb. Even thou your engine has only 80K miles on it rust is a big issue after all these years. Radiators also plug up in the cores restricting water flow and veins get bend over restricting air flow for cooling. If you're running a factory radiator still it's probably history. The pin hole leak was just a warning sign of that. If you get a new radiator get one with 3 rows of cooling cores. More radiator holds more water and the thermostate still controls the temp. and replace that two with a 160. What part of the country are you in, it was 115 in Phoenix yesterday. Everything overheats there.

:HEY. I HAVE A QUESTION THAT I WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONES INPUT ON. I HAVE A 71' MAVERICK WITH A 200 V6. MY CONCERN IS THAT IT STARTS PRETTY HARD (MEANING YOU HAVE TO TURN IT OVER USUALLY A COUPLE OF TIMES), AND TENDS TO GET HOT WHEN DRIVEN FOR AWHILE. THE THERMOSTAT AND THE STARTER WERE REPLACED AND THE RADIATOR WORKS GREAT, BUT HAS A VERY SMALL PIN PRICK LEAK. WE FIXED THIS WITH TEMPORARY WELD TYPE STUFF. I WILL REPLACE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. MY QUESTION IS, DO ANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT COULD BE CAUSING MY CAR TO START HARD AND OVERHEAT, AND IF SO WHAT ARE THE REMEDY'S FOR IT. I REALLY DON'T SUSPECT THAT THE TWO ARE RELATED. OTHER THAN THESE PROBLEMS IT RUNS VERY WELL AND ALL THE SPARK PLUGS, HOSES ETC... HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THIS CAR HAS ABOUT 80,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. I THANK ANYONE IN ADVANCE FOR RESPONDING TO MY MESSAGE AND FOR ANY HELP THEY MIGHT GIVE.
