without knowing the history of the engine anything is a guess. Sounds like you probably have leaking rings or exhaust valve stems worn causing blowby down into the engine with your older cork gaskets leaking. The oil in front is probably from the intake manifold front. You really need a comp and vacuum tests to tell wants going on. The oil dye thing is a common tool. Works real good where old oil is concerned. The exhaust valve is different from the intake because intake stems are under vacuum & the exhaust blow pressure up them. What's the engines history????

:Does this sound odd to you... I opened alice's hood to "See what there is to see" and it didn't look ANY differant. I called the shop and asked what had happened and he said they used an "infered dye" and that the old oil wouldn't make a differance.
:From MY "practiced" eye (haha) It looks like the oil is comming from under the distributer and oddly enough from out of the air cleaner (though the filter was still relatively clean....) there is a pool of oil in the "pocket" above the fan BUT the belts weren't dirty...
:Before I go all Gung ho I REALLY want to investigate this further.... Something JUST DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT!!!
:FYI, She did NOT smoke, knock or run roughly... there was just oil comming out from the sides of the hood and from under the scoops... more so on the passenger side but a little on the driver's side...
:Also, I've heard mix advice on HOW to store her... most places say to turn over the engine once and a while, the shop that gave the diagnosis said don't worry about it... (They won't do the work becuase there is "too much wrong"...
