The 9" rears you normally see in BSBs are truck rearends, 9" rears are plentiful in pickups from about 1957-1987. They won't fit your Maverick, way too wide. The only rears that will fit are Granada/Monarch/Versailles, 1957 Ford Crown Vic/Thunderbird, 1969-1977 Bronco, and 65-66 Mustangs. Few Granadas/Monarchs or 'stangs had the 9" but all 1957s and all Broncos had it. Ask for these rearends. 69 should be the same as all other years as far as that goes. To clarify: The center section (aka chunk, pumpkin, etc) is interchangable with all 9" housings, as long as the axles match the spline count. Its the housing you need. There were two different kinds of splines, 28 and 31. How do you know if the rearend you buy is any good? You don't. And it can be very pricey to repair especially if you can't do it yourself. I spend about $250 in parts alone for my Versailles rearend and labor would probably equal that if I had it done 'professionally'. I would recommend that you get a 8" rearend out of a Maverick or Comet and have it rebuilt. Buy some new gears with the ratio you want and bring it to a good shop. You should be able to score one for pretty cheap; and the rebuilding cost will keep it reliable; a worn out 8" will not be any better than the rear you have now. You could probably buy the bearings and seals yourself and save some money. 8" rears are pretty stout.
