:I've read in a few magazines lately about parents getting their kids involved in their project cars. Have any of you guys or gals had a chance to get your kids involved in one of your Maverick projects with any success? Just curious Russ

This is a real special subject for me, I began my life of cars and racing in the early 50's with bicycles, wagons and Cushmon scooters. My folks didn't own a car until 54 or so. Got caught shootingt BB gun in farmers sweet corn and new he had this old car in the barn. So to get out of the deal I quickly asked him if it was for sale? Well yes it was, a 37 Chev for 25.00. Went home and got dad to buy it. Spent many hours washing and pretend driving it until I finally got a license in 56. Later on, got a Studebaker and the rest is history. Started drag racing then dirt tracking, many years of fun. Vietnam interuppted all this and then began again in 69. Remarried and had two fine boys, started the oldest in go-karts at 10 and he was building engines at 12. I never could get the bug out of my system and now at 61, I have my own drag car (78 Fairmont)), he has a 75 Mav drag car (oldest son is 27, youngest is 17). We all spent countless hours building these cars and racing them. 17 year old was driving the Fairmont but decided to take some time off to be a teenager. Gave me the seat and it's a blast. My point of this long message is to involve young people in all your projects, but don't push to hard and don't let them work on the cars every single spare minute, they will burn out fast. My boys have been succesful at mechanics and driving, don't do drugs, alcohol, or worst of all SMOKE. Maybe I can take some of the credit but not all, you know what I mean?
