:Can anyone tell me if I need to change the master cyl. and the prop. valve? My Mav is a 74 with 4 wheel non power drums. The prop. I got with the disks looks the same as the one that is already on my car. The master cyl. on my Mav has the small and large reservoirs. Will this cyl.work with the new disks? Also I need to change the upper ball joints. Will I need to have the car's alinement checked after I change them? Thanks Russ
It's a simple law of physics- Disc brakes take a different pressure to operate than drums. The factory prop valve adjusts for this, but an adjustable one will work very well. You also need to be sure you are using a disc master cyl, as you will notice different chamber sizes. Drum systems have 2 equal size chambers, and disc systems have 1 small and 1 large. Drums automatically adjust as you drive 9if the self-adjusters work 0, but as discs wear, the caliper needs more fluid since the piston has more travel to activate the brake pad. It's basically simple, as Ford did it in '74, so all you need is factory stuff.
