I have a 1971 Maverick 2 door sedan, 250 six-cylinder. I replaced the carburetor (carter RBS 1-barrel) several months ago. The choke "heater" lines, etc. (from the exhaust manifold) were not functioning on my car, so I plugged the intake line on the carburetor, because I thought it would cause a vaccuum leak. However, the car seems to run smoother without this "hole" plugged (i.e. sucking air). Is the carb designed to use the air that is sucked in through the choke, or do I have something else going on here? By the way, I'm running about 15 pounds of vaccuum at idle. Is that anywhere close to right? As always, thanks!
